What is Cholera?

Cholera is a Worldwide Pandemic plaguing humanity for more than 200 years now. Even in 2022, 30 countries were impacted by Cholera.

3 million cases of Cholera are detected annually worldwide resulting in an average of 95000 deaths annually

Approximately 50% of these cases are estimated to occur in Children 5 years or younger.

Cholera is growing in both the number of cases and mortality. WHO reports shortage of vaccines and treatments for outbreaks.
Despite GTF, in 2022 mortality from cholera increased to 1.9 CFR

TREATMENT

Vaccines There are four approved cholera vaccines, Vaxchora®, Dukoral®, ShanChol® and Euvichol.®
Problem: Vaccines offer only prevention but not treatmentVaccination effectiveness is not 100% and Cholera vaccine protection wanes quickly: Studies indicate two to three vaccine doses prevent an estimated 37-78% of cases 2 years later

Antidiarrheals
Pepto Bismol®4 or Kaopectate®5
Problem: They are Bismuth based OTC drugs. They are not safe to consume
for pregnant women or children nor affordable for the developing world.
Lomotil and Imodium®
Problem: Contain dangerous opioids.6
These and other antidiarrheal medications cannot reduce
even 30% of the stool volume of cholera.7

Rehydration Therapy
Problem: Won´t work with severe diarrhea
necessitates intravenous infusions,
making patient access a challenge.
Does not reduce stool output,
having no effect on diarrhea.8

Antibiotics
Problem: Can take days to bring the
underlying cholera toxin under control,
and in severe cases, the patient may
run out of time. Resistance to
antibiotics is also becoming
a problem.9

There have been no efficacious treatment available right now for cholera. Vaccines have not been improved for more than 30 years now.
